Are businesses still blogging these days? You better believe it! In fact, many business owners plan to add blogs to their content marketing strategies for the first time ever in 2022. Blogs are a way to present information, educate, and connect with your audience. They can also be a way to help boost your digital rankings and online presence, and bring new readers to your website where you can move them through the sales funnel.

Is there one tried-and-true way to create blog posts? Certainly not. But you can use strategies like formatting, keyword research, crosslinks, backlinks, and more to help boost their effectiveness.

In this article, FlexDealer’s Lead Content Creator is sharing her tips on how dealers and businesses can create effective blog posts and why she believes that maintaining an active blog still matters.

According to HubSpot, “Blogs are popular, effective, and have the 3rd highest ROI of any format. The use of blogs will continue to grow in 2022, with 29% of content marketers planning to leverage blogs for the first time and 10% planning to invest more in blogs than any other format.”

Get Creative With Blog Format

Your blogs can include a lot more than just long blocks of text (though sometimes that’s completely OK!). Don’t be afraid to get creative with how you present your information. Here are a few ideas to help get you started:

A Good Content Creator Will Use Blogs to Boost SEO

Sure, blog posts are a great way to communicate your ideas and experiences with your audience, but there are also many opportunities to improve your online rankings by using creative and effective SEO strategies in your blog posts. Let’s look at an example.

A quick search (in a new, Cognito search window) for “when do 2022 Toyotas come out?” yielded the following search results:

Our client, Castlegar Toyota, took the top spot on the first page, just under a paid ad for the national Toyota site. They ranked above,,,,,,, and - not bad for a family dealership in a small British Columbia town!

Our writer was able to leverage a toolbox of SEO strategies to ensure that if somebody went to Google asking about 2022 Toyotas, our client would rank as highly as possible on the Google results page.

These strategies are something that we weave into every single blog post we create for our clients, and these successes are not uncommon. We can’t give away all our secrets, but if you’d like to talk with our team about adding monthly content creation to your brand’s digital marketing roster, don’t hesitate to schedule a free consult.

Successful Blog Post Checklist

The next time you’re about to publish a blog post, ask yourself the following questions. You don’t need to check all of these boxes, but hitting about 80% of them will help ensure the effectiveness of your post as a content marketing strategy.

  • Do you have a clear thesis or purpose?

  • Do all of your other points lead back to that thesis or purpose?

  • Have you included relevant crosslinks to create a “web” around your site?

  • Is there a prominent call to action in your post?

  • Have you achieved a solid word count?

  • Have you used headings to help with skimmability?

  • Have you provided credit for any quotations, images, or other content that doesn’t belong to you?

  • Do you have images for your visual readers?

  • Is there a person, brand, company, website, or publication that would be interested in sharing your blog post?

It's About Time You Started Blogging

No matter the industry, products, or services you offer, if you have something to say then blogging is the perfect place to do it. Start by getting words on paper and aim to publish one post monthly. Share it on your social media accounts, with your email marketing list, or even among your friends and family.
